Oyster Notes

‘Oyster Necklace’

The oyster shell, often unseen and overlooked, becomes a symbol of containment, protection, and labour. It holds space for irritation, pressure, and time, slowly transforming what is intrusive into something luminous.

Pearls are not instant or effortless objects of beauty. They are formed through endurance, patience, and repetition. This process mirrors the way many women navigate the world: absorbing experience, discomfort, and expectation, and reshaping it internally. In this particular piece, the pearl is not presented as a flawless luxury item as the centre piece and that is deliberate.

I question the act of wearing the necklace because of the organic nature of the oyster pendant. It invites reflection on what we discard once our needs are met, and on the ethical complexities of the pearling industry and the beauty standards it upholds. In many ways, I recognise myself as a contradiction—but this tension is present in so many aspects of life that avoiding it feels impossible…right now.
